Last but not least from Batch 1: those wacky Scarlets!

This was a fun but challenging pair of vamp-ponies. Rather than my usual Scarlet Touhorses, the commissioner wanted a new, super-elaborate, awesomely over-the-top rendition inspired by the fanartist Imizu's take on the sisters (and in the case of Remi, a little Komajou Densetsu snuck in there as well). I liked Imizu's alternate interpretations for the characters, especially Remilia, who has this awesome brutality that you don't see in the daintier, popular-fanon Remi. The commissioner asked me for some specific details (facial expressions, hoofboots, multiple wings on Remilia) but otherwise just let me go to town on their designs. This is what we came up with.

A lot of people are asking about the hoofboots; Imizu's signature style often includes putting heavy combat boots on characters, and the commissioner wanted me to include them adapted for pony feet. I was going to go with straight-up thick horseshoes like I did for Yuugi, but after doing a bit of research, I found out that hoof boots do, in fact, exist. I tried to adapt them into something a little more industrial-looking to fit the Imizu aesthetic.

Aside from all the work involved, the rest is pretty straightforward. The wings are done on paperclip armatures, and I was lucky enough to find crystal-shaped beads for Flandre's wings. I dremel'd down a bead to use for Remilia's ascot brooch as well. I altered their ears to be more batty and their facial expressions to the specification of the commissioner (I made a post about expression changing earlier on the tumblr.) As usual, sculpted elements are done in Apoxie, paint is Apple Barrel craft acrylics, and everything is sealed with matte Mod-podge. Remilia is rehaired with Amethyst Dollyhair, Flandre’s is Napalm. The hair is styled with straws n' boiling water.

Baits...I do remember now. Remilia is a dehorned Snowcatcher (Twilight Sparkle clone) and Flandre is a Feathermay (RD clone) head on a non-pegasus body. For me, bait choice is mostly about eye shape; I wanted the unicorns' almond eyes for Remi and the large RD-style round eyes for Flan.

Thus ends a grueling pack of Touhorse customs. I do love 'em though.

Now THAT'S More like it!
I'll be honest, I hated the crosseyed psycho version of the Flandre Pony. This version leans closer to Canon standards, which is better because Flandre may be "a loose cannon", but she's the kind that acts so with a sane like, angelic, duchenne smile.
