Custom Pony - "Princess Violette" aka Alicorn Yukari from Touhou Project

yeah dang I put these off forever. I'm so spoiled by tumblr's multiple-picture upload option that making dA collages has become too much of an asspain.

her pony name is literally her Japanese name! But more French! Because it's symbolic! I don't even know. Did you know "gap" in Greek is "Khaos"? I might have gone with that if it wasn't for Discord.

Ever since I revamped my Touhorse Yukari design I'd been hoping for someone to commission a custom of her, so I was very glad to get the chance! I knew her bait had to be the awesome new brushable Celestia, who is a different, better looking model than the original sculpt-hair Celestia. I started out by gleefully butchering the sun princess; cut her hair off, hacked off her wings, and ground her sandals off with a dremel. Then I sculpted sharp points on the areas that had been rounded down for child safety, like her horn and her ankles, to improve her appearance. Hardcore ponies, people.

Sculpted all the additions out of Apoxie Sculpt, so the final product is surprisingly hefty. The mane is a sheet cut from the toy's original plastic packaging, boiled to shape and covered with sculpted hair filaments. Assembly took a full mini-tube of superglue.

I covered her with white spray primer because I knew there was no way in hell I could give her a good white repaint by hand. The rest is all hand-painted with Apple Barrel craft acrylics, the body done separately from the mane. I used a makeup sponge to get some gradient/shading on her body and color variation in her gap-hair.

(Her eye makeup, as well as her ostrich burlesque fan-like wings, were inspired by my headcanon of Yukari as some sort of intentionally over-the-top classic film noir vamp, who smokes cigarettes on those long holder things and calls Reimu "honey". Don't hate.)

After painting I sealed her with Mod-Podge, attached the mane to the body and called it a day. Et voila, Violette!
