Edit: 5-5-13 FOR SALE This is THE Luna, the custom that put me on the map, my most popular work, and one of my earliest triumphs as a custom maker. You and tens of thousands of other pony fans have seen her around the internet over the past two years. I swore I would only make two Lunas, one for her S2 debut (which was sold on eBay for $600, possibly the highest price ever paid for a custom pony figure), and this one I've kept for myself. I've had dozens of offers to purchase her--now she can be yours.
I treasure her dearly, but now, alas, the financial situation outweighs the sentimental value. You can own one of the most renowned customs in bronydom for $185 or best offer.

-------- Luna Bait: Pinkie Pie (believe it or not)
I'd wanted to do a Luna since I first saw her, but decided to hold off and see if she got an official toy release. Well she did. [link] I...wasn't taken by it. So I took that as the masochistic go-ahead to make my own. Luna is the first pony that I really messed up on. That is, I dug myself in too deep and had to rush to Target for an emergency body donor. It worked out in the end, though.
Luna in the show has a body type that's less like a typical pony and more like a miniature Celestia. This was made back in the day before the unique "Luna/Cadance" body type, so I tried to mimic those proportions in the toy where feasible, like making my own wings and horns and elongating her neck. Her muzzle and ears are completely resculpted. I also tried elongating her legs at the joints, which is how I ruined body #1. Being a princess, I thought it fitting to bling out her jewelry and cutie mark with a little iridescent paint medium, with results...slightly better than those in the photo. Oh well.
I rehaired her with Dollyhair's Water Hyacinth blend, which mixes blue and lavender for a shimmery, iridescent effect. Luna's "true" hair color is probably Water Nixie but I liked the results of the blend. Someone on Ponychan /merch/ mentioned weaving the hair plugs which worked quite well, so thank you for the tip, brony. Styled as always with boiling water, drinking straw curlers, and prayers to my lucky stars that I wouldn't screw the whole thing up.
And look at that, I finished her up by the date of the Lunar Eclipse. So thanks for everything Luna, and hope to see a whole lot more of you in Season 2.
maaan, i am so tempted, even though my funds really don't want me to at this point in time. i may possibly wait until you're open for regular commissions, though, what would be the lowest you'd be willing to go for her?
Lowest? I'll get back to you on that. Send me a note if you're interested. I could put her on hold.
Regular custom commissions though, as far as I can tell you, are probably never happening again. Too little time, too many more important things in my life now. That's why I"m having this little "fire sale" in the first place; I'm closing the shop.

Anyway, just letting you know how great this turned out.
