Bad news.

You were probably expecting it for a while, but: Customs are on indefinite hiatus.

If I was ever going to revive the custom-making business again, I was going to do it this summer. However, after two lackluster semesters and a lot of personal angst, I decided to stay for in school for the summer term, get myself on track again and really start working on my future. That means no ponies. And beyond that? I have no clue that I would ever have the time, or frankly the will, to open up shop again. If today, I was forced to give an absolute, yes/no response, I would say: No. I'm not making customs anymore.

It was a good 2 year run though. I'm sad to end this weird and wonderful chapter of my life, but I feel that it's time. Thanks for the ride.

Yo! I had an amicable exchange with someone from What Pumpkin and decided it was worth a quick post. They're cracking down on their IP now and taking action against vendors of unofficial Homestuck stuff. That's totally fair of course, and thus I will no longer offer any Homestuck-related work for commission. (Fortunately for my conscience, I haven't done one ever anyway). So sorry Homestuckers who may have wanted a Kanayapony, but in the end it's better for your fandom anyway, right?
(...p.s. take your pony money and instead buy the SBaHJ book. it's fabulous.)

Touhou of course is a notoriously free IP so i will be continuing that business as usual. As for Hasbro...we'll just see how that goes.

And otherwise, it's about the same ol' same ol'. "Working Hard" in school translates to "Hardly Working" on ponies. Who'd have thought.

second, the sudden premium status may have caused some confusion, as my page reverted back to the way it looked when I last had a sub. i.e., when I was still making custom ponies. just to clarify, I am not making custom ponies at this time. The texts throughout my page referring to WIPs and commission statuses are all grossly out of date, and I am working on removing them during my custom pony hiatus. I'm sorry for the mix-up.

Just wanted to reassure you all, yet again, that I am still here. I promise you that no matter how absent or quiet I seem, I'm not quitting 'til I say I quit.

'as for the show, I will confess. I've only seen three episodes this season. My enthusiasm for it is really waning; without being involved in the fandom, I'm just left watching a (albeit very good) little kid's show. Every once in a while if an episode was good, I'll watch it retroactively with my friends, but I don't feel a need to keep up on it serially anymore. I'm not worried about fanservice. From what I gather, the tone-shift from season 1 to the newer seasons has to do with the writers/animators wanting to push the safe, kiddie-show envelope and make a slightly edgier cartoon, not from pandering to the fans. The increase of fan-friendly merch is much welcome, though, and I do plan to read more of the rather awesome comics.

so yeah, I will always like the show, but I'm certainly not as much into it anymore. I do still like the little customs/touhorse community that has gathered around here though, and though I've been slow and quiet I have no plans to disappear yet.  Thanks for checking in '

Hello all, thought I'd drop in and catch up.  I am still interested in offering art commissions.  But of course, that desire is inversely proportionate to the amount of time I actually have to do them.  Getting back into the groove at school is my number one priority, but it is still taking a lot longer than I expected.

I'm announcing a "beta test" of my Highly Responsive to Payers initiative, which is a fancy way of saying I'll be doodling Touhorses at $5 a pop ($8 if it's a Touhorse I haven't drawn before).  I feel like I could pop out a couple of those a week.  So, I just want to see if there's any interest in that.  Feel free to discuss and offer suggestions in the comments, and if you would be interested in being in the tentative first batch of drawings, pop me a note.  It's commitment-free.

The commissioned ponies will be drawn similar to the multiple-ponies-on-a-white-page Touhorse posts I've done before (though cleaner and with a simple background).  I am not offering more detailed drawings or any other types of commissions aside from these touhorse doodles at this time.  It's just really not feasible with my current schedule.

Customs are totally out of the question.  Sorry to prospective custom commissioners, but school is my top priority, and little tiny pony doodles are all I can fit into my schedule.  Thanks for your understanding.

Hello guys, I have been getting back into the ol' college swing of things.  I am on interesting projects and producing some good work.  I seem to be holding my own, and things are looking up.  

Custom commissions are still on hold.  I just do not have the time and resources to make them at school.  Fortunately, I am certain that I am not completely done with making custom ponies.  Sometime in the future.

However I do still need a little money on the side right now, so I am thinking of offering simple drawing commissions.  Nothing as intensive or consuming as a customized toy, or the Perfect Cherry Blossom commissioned pic, but something I can turn out in between my schoolwork and projects.  Here's what I'm thinking.


OC PONY PORTRAITS:
-Individual pony portraits for $25
-Either flat-shaded look like [link], or a more painterly style like this guy: [link]
-Can be a Touhorse or an OC.  No canon pony characters for now.
-Multiple ponies can be added for $15 each, and a simple background for some extra fee.  But all within reasonable limits.  Again this would be nothing as grandiose as a full-fledged pic.  The money I would gain would not be worth the time and experience I would take away from my "professional" projects.
-The pic is "royalty-free" and can be used however you want.  Posted on your own account, used as an icon or wallpaper, whatever.
-No risque/"adult" commissions and I reserve the right to refuse any commission proposal.

I will finish them by mid-August if I keep up my pace, just in time for me to head back to school.  And after that?  I don't really know.

Once I start school it will have been about a year since I started offering custom commissions.  For most of that year though, I was actually at home; I had an onset of depression at school from all the pressures and my lack of ability to deal with them, and I decided to pull myself out to heal and get a grip on things.  So obviously, being out of school and having few obligations but a few hours' worth of weekly appointments, I had a lot of free time, and thus time to work on ponies.  

But now my NEET life is coming to an end, and other things have to take precedence.  Not just school, but a social life and self-enrichment too.  I didn't take good care of myself at school last year and continued that trend at home, staying cooped up in my room 90% of the time and only leaving to work out or go to appointments.  I'm excited to get back into the world again, and excited to WANT to get back into the world again, because for the longest time I just didn't want to do a damn thing but ponies or the internet.  So not only will I have a lot less free time, but with the free time I do have, I don't really want to spend as much devoted towards ponies.  Mostly for my own sake...I have a tendency to get too deeply into a project at the expense of everything else, and if I try to keep up ponies at my current pace while at school, it will most certainly lead to disaster.

So basically...I'm thinking of how to balance this little hobby of mine from here on out.  I will certainly take smaller batches, and may take longer time to complete them.   
What I will tell you for sure is: once I finish this batch, my pony-making business will be suspended indefinitely.  I will not even think about it until I am confident that I am leading a healthy, happy, productive life at school.  I really don't want to relapse into the same pattern as before.

I'm sorry to have to say all this, but it was inevitable that I'd find my way out of Equestria and back to the real world, with all its hardships and wonders.  I don't think I will keep this up past two years, so we'll see what happens between now and next summer.  Thanks for understanding.

Whoo japan was a blast.  Truly the trip of a lifetime.  This is the first time I've gone abroad without my parents (went with a couple of good friends) and it was such a wonderful country to be let loose in:  reasonably safe, VERY easy to get around without a car, and so much cool stuff to see.  It's mind-blowing to see buildings and artifacts that have been around centuries before the US existed (Nara was celebrating its 1300th anniversary!) juxtaposed with the cutting-edge of modern architecture and technology. I got some great pics which I will be posting on my personal tumblr.

Of course, that appreciation of a fascinating culture was properly balanced with much nerdy indulgence in Akihabara, hoo boy.  My favorite crazy fandom still has quite the following over there, as I saw at least 3 shops dedicated exclusively to Touhou.  I picked up some neat stuff, including Symposium of Post-Mysticism (which is just gorgeous as an irl book), and the "Best Of" TOHO EUROBEAT album, which has some very neat tracks by ponydom's own Eurobeat Brony!  It's quite a hot seller over there, so big 'grats to A-ONE and the good folks of TOHO EUROBEAT.  I also scored a Floating Cloud album which was much harder to come by, many of the shop owners hadn't even heard of them.  Sad, they're one of my favorite circles right now and their folk/Celtic covers are absolutely first-rate.  Do check them out.

I've been back for a bit but i'm still settling in.  Need to straighten up my room, and stop waking up at 1pm (at least when i don't mean to).  Once I get back on my feet, my one outstanding commission (Stardust Rush) is of utmost importance.  Then I can start picking folks for the next batch.  

I'm going to start posting the finished pics of my other commissions as well, I am way behind on those.  I'm just super spoiled on tumblr's photoset uploading option.  After that, making all those photo montages in photoshop is kind of a drag.  I think from now on I'm just going to upload a single pic of each finished pony onto dA, and include a link to a tumblr photoset if folks want to see more pictures of it.  That'll be a lot easier on me.  But yes, you should start to see a little more activity around here again.

Oh!  And a big thank you to EqD for featuring Dragonborn Fluttershy at the top of their custom round-up [link] a few weeks back!  That despite the fact that I still don't have a proper "finished" post for her either here or tumblr.  Better get on that....

I bought some Touhou Shushuroku figures, which are blind-packaged, and as is often the case I wound up with more than I wanted.  Now I'd like to earn back a little pocket money for my trip, so I am offering Shikieiki and two Kanakos for $10 each (or 800 yen, exactly the price I bought them for) plus shipping. To one of my customers, who has just opened a paypal dispute over their commission because they refuse to wait until I get back.  This customer has been blocked for constant harassment and threats.

That's fine, you can keep throwing your little tantrum.  I literally cannot do anything about it at this point.  My hands are completely tied and I cannot do any more work on customs until I return.  I won't bother arguing.

If you would like your custom then pay me in full when I get back in July and I will send her to you.  Since I figured this kind of delay would happen anyway, I went and started on her smile.  You would have her exactly as you wanted, with expression change and everything.   

I have two other people who had to have their ponies postponed for the same reason as you and they were fine with it.  You will not get any preferential treatment to the other customers, especially after your selfish, entitled behavior and continued harassment.

If you want to cancel then I would ask you to pay the $15 cancellation fee to cover supplies, as is clearly stated in my commission guidelines.  If you refuse that then I will call you out on it.

Whew.  Well I am in the thick of packing for Japan and as is the case in any sort of travel, several last minute issues came up.  I will be addressing them up until my departure so suffice to say this is the cutoff point for my commissioners.  The ones who are ready to ship out will do so tomorrow, and the ones that aren't will have to wait until I get back in July.  It's about half-and-half, and each of the commissioners know where you stand.  I am very sorry for the unexpected inconvenience.

My tomodachis and I are going to Fanime tomorrow!  You may see me there-- but you probably won't know it.  This year I'm going uncostumed, incognito, and probably won't hit up too many of the brony events because you know, it's not much my style anymore.  But I expect to have a grand ol' time as always.

I will be leaving the country for several weeks starting next month!  I ship out to Japan on the 19th of June and I won't be back until the 12th of July.  I'm really trying to get my current batch of commissions done before I leave (though my art trade will probably not be finished by then... sorry Saucy :C) I have everything I need for them now (including a couple new hair colors!), and I really hope to avoid having to leave them untouched for several weeks, but...nevertheless, the worst may happen.  I'll try my hardest to avoid that.  Also, I won't be picking ponies for my next batch until I arrive back in the states.

Bah, I knew I forgot something that I've been wanting to share for a long time!  and now that I can't embed images, I've lost the opportunity a little.
Anyway, remember that Marisa pony plush that I had commissioned, from the last journal?  That plush is NOT, in fact, the first pony plush in existence to use one of my Touhorse designs!

Several months ago ~theScootaloo, the recent commissioner of the YuuParu custom pair, went to a talented plush maker and got himself an absolutely gorgeous plush version of my Yuugi horse.  That is really something that you guys like my designs enough to pay money to have cuddly little plushies of them.  I was blown away.

It is so neat to hear of people doing interested things with my Touhorses.  As far as I'm concerned, they're just products of combining two intellectual properties that don't belong to me, so I don't feel that I can put much of an "OC DO NOT STEAL!" claim on them.  So go nuts with them, but let me know!  I'd love to hear about it

Well I finally got current with Season 2, having stopped watching before Hurricane Fluttershy.  They really pulled out all the stops on that Finale, man.  A very satisfying end.

So, looking back on season 2, I'd say....nowhere near as memorable as the first season.

While S1 was cute and moral-based with more than a few bone-tosses to an older crowd, S2 was a lot wackier and more gauche, and seemed to me a little more preoccupied with subverting itself.  It's tempting to say the tone shift came about because of the increased awareness of bronies, but I think it's more that a), the writers are a lot more familiar with the world and its characters and b) perhaps they were toeing a line throughout all S1 to appease their child-audience-focused client, and now that they've been guaranteed a few more seasons they feel they don't have to play it as safe anymore.  I found the sincere naivete of S1 a lot more charming.  This time I felt myself rolling my eyes as often as I was cracking smiles.

The episode plots and secondary characters (especially the latter) seemed much more forgettable as well.  But that's a harder one for me to assess objectively...after all, I viewed S1 through the eyes of someone a lot more involved in the fandom, and S2, like any other "next installment", fell prey to Shiny Newness Deficiency Syndrome.  But from the vestiges of bronydom that I still pay attention to, the characters introduced this season haven't captured the attention of fans the way Gilda, Zecora and PON-3 still do.  And the old familiar characters suffered from quite a bit of Flanderization...Twilight's love of organization turned her into kind of an anal-retentive, hair-triggered nervous wreck, Big Macintosh is all but mute, and poor Pinkie has pretty much been reduced to a benign psychopath (unless a plot actually focuses on her, like A Friend in Deed, which was one of the sweetest episodes of S2).

That's not to say there haven't been positive changes this season.  For one thing they've been able to add a lot more art assets, and the animation is a lot more sophisticated (although now we have to deal with that weird Uncanny Valley mouth they keep sticking on everyone).  I'd say the number one improvement this season is the songs.  Not to say they were bad in the least in S1, but every number in S2 was just phenomenal.  Mr. Ingram really outdid himself.

So...I still enjoyed watching Season 2, but all the while I felt the show is starting to exhaust itself.  I know Season 3 is in the works, and I will watch it happily.  Just not with the same diligence and enthusiasm as with Season 1.  And if the show wraps up after Season 3, I would be perfectly satisfied, and take away fond memories of my time with the ponies.  Unfortunately now that it's become the Hub's darling cash cow, I'm afraid it will overextend itself to the point where it's just beating a dead....yeah.


Anyway this batch of customs is going a lot quicker than the last.  I'm all done with sculpting, halfway done with painting, and into rehairing on Utsuho and MDBB.  I expect to finish in a couple of weeks.

Also it would be a horrible business model!  Because bronies wouldn't shell out for random non-canon characters, and...nobody else faps to ponies.

No I'll be making customs for a while yet.

However, I'm starting to get my life back on track again, which is bad news for all of you because I won't have the same amount of time to sit on my butt and make customs all day.  That said, I don't think I'll be able to accept every commission I get anymore.  

I'm trying to figure out some sort of fair system of choosing.  Think I'll do a lottery for every bait I have, not just Rarities for PON-3.  The only people right now with guaranteed commissions are my current WIPs, the ones in the "next batch" section in the WIP widget, and the winner of the PON-3 lottery.  I'll draw new people after I finish this batch and start the next one.

I'm sorry for this new inconvenience, but I guess it was kind of inevitable.  Pony Time, unfortunately, is inversely proportional to Productive Time.

Also my primo subscription is almost over.  I think I'm just gonna let it run out.  Anything I can't do here anymore I'll just carry over to my WIP blog.  Out of convenience, dA will still be my primary storefront.

So uh....that's where I'm at right now.  I'll probably post again when I start the upcoming batch.

I'm sorry you all haven't heard from me in a while.  I've been doing a lot of....introspection.  And I've come to the uncomfortable conclusion that...custom pony-making just isn't working out for me anymore.

I started making customs to profit off of bronies.  But I entered the game too late.  Customs are dead.  Everyone has moved on to plushies and shirts and other things I'm not capable of creating.  I just can't keep up with the ponymerch game anymore.  I'm nothing but a fossil.

However.

I stumbled upon this thread in my usual /merch/ browsings.  Obviously the content generated quite a bit of controversy amongst the good /merch/ers.  But my mind on the matter was made up when I saw the winning bid.  I can't argue with money.

I've already been in correspondence with a screenprinting company that can produce these at a fair price, and I think I have all the logistics down.  So with that figured out, I will go ahead and do what I do best: exploit two intersecting fandoms for profit.




These are the prototypes for my first series of Touhorse Dakimakura.  They have been edited for this journal post to remove graphic content, but the final products will not be censored.  They will be produced in limited batches of 50, and will retail for $300 each.  I figure since they cater to two different fandoms, I can keep the price high due to the doubled consumer interest.  
I will start opening reservation slots for these soon.  Currently only Reimu ("Dreamsealer") and Marisa ("Starspark") are available, but I will offer two new characters per quarter as chosen through a popularity poll.

I will offer full refunds to all of my custom comissioners, minus a $30 deposit to seed my new venture of course.

You all know my negative stance on sexual pony things, and may be tempted to call me a hypocrite.  However as a merchmaker, I am nothing but a slave to the whims of the market.  If bronies decide that sex is the new hot commodity, I have to adapt or die.  Besides, the Touhou fandom has had a rich and illustrious history of pornographic doujin-merch, and I feel that I will only be contributing to the tradition.

Even as I type this I am filled with regret.  As I count out every PayPal transfer and watch my profits rise astronomically, I will only feel sadness at my decision.  But it is as difficult as it is necessary.  This is the new face of Modern Warmare, like it or not.  I hope you don't think less of me, but if you do....I understand.

A lot of would-be commissioners are really gung-ho about it and willing to pay as soon as possible.  I'm pleased to hear it, but unfortunately, there is currently about a 3-4 month wait time on commissions.  I have quite a queue.
I really don't want to get an impacted queue and be overwhelmed by demand since that seems to destroy a lot of artists who offer commissions.  I think I may try to find a fair way to limit the commissions I take.  I hate refusing people though.

I just ran the PON-3 lottery (see more info below).  Sorry I got to it so late.  Nobody who asked for PON-3 after the deadline was added to the lottery, so the results are the same as they would be if I did it on time.

As winner of the PON-3 lottery, Kilian82 gets to claim the one Rarity toy I have to use for their own PON-3 commission.  Anyone else interested in a PON-3 must either pay extra to order a Rarity online, or wait for me to buy another Rarity in stores and start the next lottery.  Again, you can read more about the Rarity/PON-3 situation below, in the section titled "Regarding Specific Ponies".
I have also imposed a limit on ponies per commissioner, to make things fair to all the people who want a custom.  Right now, you can only commission TWO ponies total from me, whether you ask for them at once or at different times.  I may lift this limit once I feel that I've gotten through enough people.

-If your pony is an OC, a "ponified" version of a character, or a creation that requires in-depth description, please fill out this form [link] with as much information as possible and send it to me.
-I will read and price-quote every order I get, free of commitment.  

I keep a rolling queue of orders, so slots are currently not limited.
You will be added to the queue when we decide on and accept a price.  If you don't have the means to pay at present, I'll reserve your order and put it in the queue when you tell me you have the funds.  
Because of my queue, there is currently about a 3-4 month wait time on commissions.
When I am ready to start production, I will send you an email asking for your final commitment and your first payment.  If you don't reply to my price quote or my final commitment request, I will no longer attempt to contact you. It is your responsibility to get in touch with me again.

Basic alicorn commissions will simply be pegasus toys with horns attached, with no further modifications to the body shape.  The alicorn's horn counts as the optional sculpted accessory.

Regarding Specific Ponies:

-Scratch/PON-3 is $45 for permanent glasses, $50 for separate.  I DO NOT offer a "removable glasses" Scratch.  I will make a Scratch with separate, magnetic glasses, but you will have to install the magnet in her head on your own.

Rarity toys are becoming very hard to find in stores, and I can't find enough to meet the demand for PON-3 customs.  To make things fair, I'm going to hold lotteries for every Rarity toy I can find.  Every PON-3 order I receive will be entered into the lottery.  The winner will get to claim the Rarity and a commission slot for PON-3, while the rest will have to wait until I get another Rarity.  No lotteries are planned at this time.  If you are willing to pay the $8-$11 extra to have me order a Rarity online, you can bypass the lottery and have a guaranteed commission slot for PON-3.

-Derpy is $45 and only available with hard-sculpted hair.  Her brushable hair color (Lemonade) is sold out everywhere and may not restock for quite some time.
-Doctor Whooves with accessories (collar+tie and screwdriver in mouth) is $55.  
-I do not offer Luna for commission.
-I will only make duplicate commissions of established canon/fanon Friendship is Magic characters (like Gala Applejack or Doctor Whooves), my own "OCs" (mainly Touhorses), and your own OCs.  All other customs are one of a kind and will not be recreated.


Mature content:

I want to bring up a very important point that I hadn't touched on before, and that is the extent of "mature" content I am willing to include in my commissions.  Basically, I will not accept orders I perceive as having a risque and/or sexual nature.

Ponies in racy situations is not something I care for or feel very comfortable with.  I realize it's prevalent throughout the fandom and has been since its inception, so I content myself with simply staying away from the things I don't like.  However in this little corner of the internet where I reside, I feel that I have a right to, politely and without judgement, turn away anyone whose commission proposal makes me uncomfortable.

I do accept blood-and-gore commissions, if anyone still wants to get their mature content on.

Please respect my right as a hired craftsperson and fellow pony fan to set my boundaries.  I apologize to anyone who is inconvenienced by this.

Geez, that means Spyro 3 came out 12 whole years ago.

I've been busy through the holiday season helping my family with Christmas and New Years (and making time for Skyrim, I'll admit) so commissions have been on hold for the past few weeks.  But now I'm heading back to town and I'll be starting on them again soon.


I'm taking this upcoming semester off for personal reasons.  I'll have a job and plenty of other obligations, so I don't think it will affect my pony production speed one way or the other.  


Commissions are still closed.  As planned, I won't open until everything on the to-do list is finished.

I'll put up those pictures of the last completed batch eventually   The important thing is that they all got shipped out, and it sounds like they all arrived except for the overseas order.
